Studio Sessions
Beyond the Horizon
with Julia Aurora Guzmán
May 2026
About the Studio Session
Beyond the Horizon explores the horizon as a physical line, a meditative state, and a threshold between the known and the unknown. A goal to be met, a finish line, a decisive and revelatory moment, an end ~ only to notice you’ve reached half way in a continuum that never actually ends. The expectation of a result; a vision; an answer, only to notice the question was answered with another question.
In this studio session, we will explore the transformation of a line into a circle; into a spiral; into a labyrinth. Meditation in movement. Clarity in action towards the unknown future selves and conditions. Action with trust. In trust we rest, in trust we breathe, one at a time. One after the other. Breath after breath. Visible yet unreachable, the horizon invites our uncertainties towards silence, and into a creative attention that is centered in presence, alignment and inner stillness.
About the Lead Artist
Julia Aurora Guzmán (Santo Domingo, 1993). Guzmán’s interdisciplinary practice manifests in sensorial installations that explore threshold moments. As reflections for these states, her works embody the search for a center—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—through the union of art, architecture, and nature. Guzmán earned a Master’s in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities from the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. She holds a BFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute (USA), and a Fine Arts degree from the Altos de Chavón School of Design (Dominican Republic). She has completed multiple artist residencies, including at La Escocesa (Barcelona), JOYA ~ Art + Ecology AiR (Almería), Despina (Brazil), and the European Ceramic Workcentre (Netherlands) and has received grants from Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and Stichting Stokroos. Julia’s work has been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Dominican Republic, United States, Brazil, Spain, France, UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. Her work forms part of permanent collections including Casa Mella Russo (Dominican Republic) and she is currently working on her presentation for the biennial at Centro Leon, 2026.
