Studio Sessions

Line Language

with Julia Aurora Guzmán

March 2027

About the Studio Session

Our world is a complex composition of lines. Narrow ~ long ~ curling ~ entwined ~ sharp ~ soft ~ circuitous ~ confined, the endless qualities of line form a vocabulary for structures, boundaries, actions, and feelings. In this Studio Session, we enter the line through different realms — graphic and sculptural, symbolic and spiritual, emotive and vast.

We will move between the horizontal, the vertical, and the circular: the horizon as a threshold between the known and unknown; the vertical line as a connection between earth and cosmos; the circle as a center, a space that can hold and be held.

Line Language explores how a seemingly simple trace can signify, become, or reveal a limit, a container, or a path. This is a space to follow the line and see where it leads.

About the Lead Artist

Julia Aurora Guzmán (Santo Domingo, 1993). Guzmán’s  interdisciplinary practice manifests in sensorial installations that explore threshold moments. As reflections for these states, her works embody the search for a center—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—through the union of art, architecture, and nature. Guzmán earned a Master’s in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities from the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. She holds a BFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute (USA), and a Fine Arts degree from the Altos de Chavón School of Design (Dominican  Republic). She has completed multiple artist residencies, including at La Escocesa (Barcelona), JOYA ~ Art + Ecology AiR (Almería), Despina  (Brazil), and the European Ceramic Workcentre (Netherlands) and has received grants from Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and Stichting Stokroos. Julia’s work has been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Dominican Republic, United States, Brazil, Spain, France, UK, Belgium and the Netherlands.
