Studio Sessions

Altering Stories

with Sabrina Basten

January 2027

About the Studio Session

We all live with stories about who we are, what success looks like, what an artist should be, and what constitutes the creation of something meaningful. Stories both clarify and disguise identities.

While some stories are chosen, many others are inherited or written for us. Liberation from such narratives means learning to imagine and tell other stories. What happens if we slow down, wander, listen, and allow another story to emerge? What happens when we generate those new trajectories together?

In this Studio Session we take inspiration from Ursula K. Le Guin, Donna Haraway, Laurie Anderson, and the unique malleability of clay, to question familiar narratives, break rules, weave new tales, rediscover forgotten histories, and invent more open-ended conclusions.
